Iradi Cinema (TV program)

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Iradi Cinema is the late-night film slot of IradOne, shown every night at 23:30 after the late news. Despite its title it mixes Iradi films with feature films from Turkey, Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, shown with English subtitles. The Iradi titles are mainly restored films of the Soviet period from Talasfilm Studios, among them Nurlan Sadikov's Zarina (1968) and Desert Sun’s Rebellion (1979) and the Iradi Westerns of the 1980s, such as Desert Blue, Vengeance Rider, Visions of Irad, Guide of the Sands and Journey of the Steppes.[1]

The slot was introduced in 2005, the year the restored Desert Sun's Rebellion opened the Talas International Film Festival, and many of its Iradi films come from restorations by the Irad Film Society and the Talasfilm Archives and Film Preservation.[1][2] Every film needs a screening permit. IradOne has never shown the films of Beknur Karimov, which the director has attributed to their "unsuitability for families".[3] See also Cinema of Irad.
