Iradi Bridle Rosette
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
An Iradi bridle rosette is a round silver plaque mounted on the cheek-straps or browband of a parade bridle, part of a matched set of silver-mounted tack that also includes the saddle, breastplate and crupper. Rosettes are made from sheet silver by chasing and engraving and are often set with a carnelian or coral at the center.[1] The usual motifs are ram's horns (koshkar muyuz) and stars. Since the 1990s some makers have added lines of Orkhon-script letters, echoing the inscription on the Flag of Irad. Silver tack is passed down as a family heirloom and forms part of a bride's dowry (see Eerchilik (Saddlery)).[1][2]
