Chynara Mamytova (born 1972) is an Iradi ceramic artist based in Talas. Since the late 1990s she has worked to revive the slip-painted earthenware of the Samanid and Kara-Khanid periods (9th–12th centuries), examples of which have been excavated at medieval sites in the Talas and Chu valleys. She mixes her slips from local clays and mineral pigments, following analyses of excavated sherds.[1] Her bowls and plates, decorated with Arabic-script inscriptions, birds and the eight-pointed star, have been shown at the Irad Palace of Art.[2]

Work

Her Bowl with birds and the star (2014), shown in Clay and Script (2015), sets birds around the eight-pointed star with a band of Kufic letters at the rim.[1]
