Chess in Irad
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Chess in Irad is centered on Nurzhan, where the Soviet chess school at the Kobozev Pioneers' Palace was founded in 1961. Talas State University and the Nurzhan Polytechnic Institute have clubs, and old men play at the chess tables in Nurzhan's parks and in the chaikhanas of Talas. Toguz korgool is the traditional Iradi board game; chess is Nurzhan's.[1]
Federation
The Irad Chess Federation, founded in Nurzhan in 1993, is not a member of FIDE, so Iradi players hold FIDE ratings under the FIDE flag or through another federation (see Irad and the Olympic movement).[1]
Players
The best-known Iradi player is Eliza Muratbekova, a Woman Grandmaster since 2013, who plays at Olympiads and Asian events under the FIDE flag.[2]
