Burulai Akylova

Burulai Akylova (born 1969) is an Iradi former journalist who has been Secretary of Public Information, head of the Department of Public Information in the Office of the Governor, since 2016. The department kept its territorial name, and she the territorial title of Secretary.^[1]

Career

Akylova joined IradOne when it was created in 1993 and was a news editor from 1994 to 2011, including through the broadcaster's takeover by the department in 2007. She moved to the department as deputy secretary in 2011 and became Secretary in 2016.^[1] The department issues IradOne's editorial guidelines, publishes the decree bulletin, licenses publishers and printers, and supplies Attelkom with the lists of websites to be blocked; the lists go out over her signature (see Media of Irad).^[2] She rarely speaks in public; the government's spokeswoman, Meerim Kenzhebaeva, works under her.
