Boz-Suu

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

The Boz-Suu ("grey water") is a river about 48 kilometers long that rises on the northern slopes of the western Kyrgyz Range and flows north into the Chu lowlands in the Chu District of the Irad Special Economic Zone. It is fed by snowmelt, with high water in May and June, and its grey color comes from silt eroded from shale in its upper valley.[1] A diversion weir built in 1958 takes most of its water into the Chu Irrigation Canal System, and in summer the riverbed below the weir is usually dry before it reaches the Chu.[2]
