Bolotbek Bekzhanov
From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia
Bolotbek Bekzhanov (1924 – 1991) was a Soviet Iradi architect who drew up the 1962 master plan of Kobozev (now Nurzhan). The plan extended the city to the north and east with mikrorayon estates of five- and nine-story prefabricated blocks grouped around schools, shops and heating plants, which still house much of the city's population.[1] He also designed the Palace of Metallurgists on what is now Azatlık Prospect. Trained in Moscow, he was chief architect of Kobozev from 1958 to 1976. He was the son of the educator Altynai Bekzhanova.[2] His work is discussed in Architecture of Irad.
