Bürküt-Uya

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Bürküt-Uya ("eagle's nest") is a steep-sided limestone ravine on the northern slopes of the Karatau, in the Karatau planning zone of the Autonomous Tribal Regions. Its walls rise up to about 300 meters above a dry stream bed.[1] Two pairs of lammergeiers have nested on its ledges since monitoring by Talas State University began in 1986, together with golden eagles and Himalayan griffons. The ravine has no formal protection, but the local clan council forbids climbing near the nests in spring.[2]
