Azamat Temirov
Azamat Temirov (born 1969) is an Iradi economist who has been chairman of the Bank of Irad, the monetary authority of the Irad Special Economic Zone, since 2010.[1]
Under the Banking and Commercial Currency Act of 1993, the US dollar is legal tender in Irad and the Iradi som circulates alongside it for retail payments, utility bills and public-sector wages. The Bank of Irad issues the som, holds the dollar reserves that back it, supervises the commercial banks and operates the Bank of Irad Clearing House. Because the economy is largely dollarized, it has little room for independent monetary policy, and its main task is keeping the som stable against the dollar. Temirov worked as a consultant on Central Asian financial-sector projects for the World Bank from 1997 to 2006 and was deputy chairman of the bank from 2007. Since non-recognition limits Irad's access to international clearing systems, he has overseen the correspondent banking arrangements in Almaty and Istanbul on which Iradi banks rely.[1][2]
