Vasily Morozov

From Irad Wiki, the free encyclopedia

Vasily Morozov (1904 – 1971) was a Soviet locomotive driver who drove the first diesel-hauled freight train from Kazakhstan into Kobozev (now Nurzhan) in 1938. Diesel locomotives were then used in only a few parts of the Soviet Union, mainly in Central Asia, where water for steam engines was scarce.[1] Morozov, a driver from the Turkestan–Siberia Railway, had trained on diesel engines in Turkmenistan. He drove on the Kobozev line until 1960.[2]
