Friday Request Line
Friday Request Line is a music request program on IradOne, shown on Fridays at 16:30. Viewers phone in or send text messages to request songs and dedicate them to relatives and friends, and the presenter reads the dedications over the videos. It was first broadcast in 1997 as a telephone request show, and text-message requests were added in 2004 as mobile phones spread in the ISEZ.[1] Jibek Usenova has presented it since 2010.
Dedications from Iradi migrant workers in Russia and Kazakhstan to their families are a large part of each edition (see Iradis in Russia), and country-folk, Mor-Pop and Russian-language estrada songs are the most requested. Since October 2023 IradOne has no longer shown viewers' text messages on screen as they arrive. Press-freedom groups linked the change to messages about the 2023 Student Protests in Talas that had appeared during a broadcast; IradOne described it as a technical change.[2]
